Principal's Message
Welcome to Moreno Elementary, Home of the Mustangs!
It is my great pleasure to welcome you to our amazing school community. For the past few years the MVUSD has been in the process of building a new school site for Moreno to grow and expand with a brand new school building; increase student body to include 6th grade; having a continued focus on improving academic excellence; and an additional focus on the Creative and Performing Arts for Grades TK through 6th Grade.
Moreno is an AVID (Advancement Via Individual Determination) Elementary School which is an academic support program for grades 1st-6th grades. The purpose of the program is to prepare students for secondary school success with a focus on preparing students in the future for college or a viable career path.
Moreno incorporates PBIS (Positive Behavior Interventions and Strategies) to teach responsible behaviors and to address inappropriate student behaviors in a 3 tiered growth model which supports and teaches students strategies with peer relationships and interactions with staff. Moreno Elementary has been awarded yearly for high levels of PBIS implementation.
As a Creative and Performing Arts School, Moreno Elementary has enrichment activities to enhance learning in the Core Curriculum, as well as additional opportunities for students to express themselves through the Arts. These focus areas include; beginning and advanced band, orchestra (violin), choir, dance enrichment, drama, and more as we expand and develop our Creative and Performing Arts enrichment in the future.
Every week all grade levels have classroom lessons which centers on a STEAM (Science, Technology, Engineering, Art, and Music) enrichment. Students look forward to the learning and experience with a fun and creative activity.
Parents are encouraged to be involved in the school site as parent volunteers. Parent volunteers attend an orientation and then are approved to participate on campus with students and teachers. ELAC (English Learners Advisory Counsel) Meetings are held 5 times a year and a Parent Book is held three times a month on campus. Additionally monthly meetings for Moreno’s AAPAC (African American Parent Advisory Council) are a great source for information and opportunities to gather as a community with families. School Site Council (SSC) is an advisory committee that approves the school’s SPSA plan and Title 1 Budget. A parent Booster Club is another opportunity for parent involvement with events and fundraising for the school begins in Fall 2023.
Moreno is an exciting school with many diverse opportunities for our students, staff, families and community!
